Artist Spotlight: Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse has been the buzz of the music blogs, and after sampling a few of her tracks, I can see why everyone is raving about her sound. She sounds like a direct link between the greatest Verve female artists of the late 1950s and 1960s while sounding fresh and contemporary at the same time. The vibe of Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, and Dinah Washington are alive and well, now with just a hint of british punk attitude. The songs below come from her new album, Back to Black, which will be released in America on March 12. The first track features guest vocals by Ghostface Killah (courtesy of Spinner). The second track is the Hot Chip remix of her current single, Rehab (courtesy of Arjanwrites). One listen to Winehouse, and you will be hooked. Thanks to artists like Winehouse and Gnarls Barkley, old school is back.
