Coyote problem in Washington Metro area?

I guess I never pictured DC and the surrounding suburbs as a haven for coyotes, but it seems they are really taking over down here: http://www.wtop.com/index.php?nid=25&sid=310917

So much for picturing the southwestern images courtesy of Warner Brothers' Coyote and Roadrunner cartoons, this is the real deal. Seems house cats (and really short people) are the most at risk.

Of course, Maryland has begun bear hunting season, so I guess the wildlife has adapted quite well to urbanization.
