The music industry has lost a true pioneer, Martin Denny, dead at age 93. Martin Denny is considered the father of "Exotica" a form of lounge music incorporating the music and sounds of the south pacific, africa, and latin america, infused with traditional jazz (think of the musical South Pacific and you get the idea):

His style influenced everyone from Arthur Lymann to today's St. Germain, and is still considered hip enough to have been featured in an episode of Fox's "The O.C." this season.
I'll have to pop his greatest hits CD into the machine tonight and listen to a few spins of "Quiet Village."
