2006 marks the 30th anniversary of punk rock as we know it, and The Damned were there at the very start (even beating The Clash and Sex Pistols as the very first punk act signed to a record label). By the mid 80s, The Damned became a bit more goth for many longtime fans, but I think the noirish direction is much more suited to spooky frontman David Vanian (who was in fact a grave digger in an earlier life...). Vanian's vocals are stellar by the way. I'm a fan of the MCA / Cleopatra Records period, and the band was courteous enough to post a full track from the 2001 album Grave Disorder which has some killer (pun intended) artwork... So, if you feel like being a little damned today, just download and enjoy.... If not, then take your laptop and "Smash it up" ;)Thrill Kill
