Artist Spotlight: Freiraum

FREIRAUM is an electronic duo from Switzerland (Pablo Mateu & Andreas Freitag). In November, I featured their track Land of Confusion from the Zexy EP as part of a downtempo mix. Their latest release, Sofa Sessions was released in 2006 via Elektranoise. The sound can best be described as a stellar mix of dance, electro-lounge, trance, and ambient

"In an industry which likes to pigeonhole bands FREIRAUM successfully defended its diverse repertoire. They are not only sound-fetishists but also created their own style that proves synthetic sounds can be more than just techno. FREIRAUM is in its element when boundaries are broken down! The success of the last albums /releases shows that the gimmicky style has found many friends among the electro and experimental music scene. The project FREIRAUM started in 2000 and has since produced five albums / releases. The newest album, “sofa sessions” was released in 2006."

Below are two recent EP releases complete with full artwork which the band has made available through their website. Certainly worth a listen. I have been hooked on the Zexy EP, which is a brilliant collage of electronic instrumentals.
