Artist Spotlight: Boxcar Collision

OK, enough retro music for a while and on to some more recent stuff worth checking out. What Washington, DC lacks in voting rights, it makes up for with a very successful and diverse music scene ranging from some of the biggest names in electronic music (Thievery Corporation) to Go Go music legend Chuck Brown to underground indie acts and everything in between. I discovered Boxcar Collision last night while watching a live performance of How It Goes on Local Point TV and instantly thought of the classic female-fronted shoegaze groups of the early to mid-1990s complete with subdued, breathy female vocals, shimmering guitar and muted bass. Think Throwing Muses, Belly, Cowboy Junkies, The Go Betweens and The Smiths and you've got Boxcar Collision.
