Wow, it has been some time since I've posted any lounge / spy jazz tunes and just happened to stumble across this little gem doing a Google search. Two import versions of this now out-of-print CD were released between 2004 and 2005 and new copies fetch upwards of $70 (so grab a used copy if you can find it). Man From Interpol starred Richard Wyler as Inspector Anthony Smith, an officer from Interpol on assignment to Scotland Yard. The series enjoyed a first run on NBC in 1960, and was broadcast by Associated-Rediffusion (the Independent Television London weekday franchise) between August 1960 and July 1961. The stellar soundtrack was composed by the late Tony Crombie, regarded as one of the finest jazz drummers and bandleaders to ever come from Britain. Crombie's soundtrack is classic late 1950s early 1960s spy jazz so fans of concurrent scores by Henry Mancini, Edwin Astley, Laurie Johnson, John Barry and so forth would do well to seek this out while good used copies still exist.Tuesday, July 01, 2008
